Project Overview

Children with special needs are not as different from you and me as you might think. They desire the same things we all want: to love, to be loved, to be accepted, appreciated, and included.

In the rural communities of Kakunyu and Bakka in Wakiso District, Uganda, children with special needs face unique challenges that require dedicated support and resources. Barnochkvinnor has launched a project to provide essential care, resources, and advocacy for children with special needs, supporting these vulnerable children and their families.

Our mission is to ensure that every child with special needs in our communities receives the dignity, care, and opportunities they deserve, regardless of their physical or developmental challenges.

Project Goals

Primary Objectives

  • Immediate Relief: Provide essential daily needs including specialized diapers, nutritious food, and critical medications
  • Mobility Support: Supply wheelchairs and mobility aids to enhance independence and quality of life
  • Family Empowerment: Educate and support families in caring for children with special needs
  • Community Integration: Promote acceptance and inclusion of children with disabilities within local communities
  • Sustainable Care: Establish long-term support systems that ensure continuous care and development

1. Essential Daily Care

  • Specialized Diapers: Providing age-appropriate, high-quality diapers for children with incontinence issues
  • Nutritional Support: Supplying specialized foods and supplements tailored to individual dietary needs
  • Medical Care: Ensuring access to essential medications and regular health monitoring
  • Hygiene Supplies: Comprehensive hygiene kits including soaps, creams, and sanitizing products

2. Mobility & Accessibility

  • Wheelchair Distribution: Providing properly fitted wheelchairs for children with mobility challenges
  • Mobility Aids: Supplying crutches, walkers, and other assistive devices
  • Home Modifications: Supporting families in making their homes more accessible
  • Therapy Equipment: Providing basic physiotherapy and occupational therapy tools

3. Family & Community Support

  • Community assets: Established community health workers and religious organizations

  • 100 children receive consistent supply of specialized diapers
  • 80 children access improved nutrition through specialized food programs
  • 60 children receive essential medications and medical supplies
  • 40 children obtain properly fitted wheelchairs or mobility aids
